Two women were taken to hospital after their oil boiler started leaking carbon monoxide in South Milton.

Three fire crews from Salcombe, Kingsbridge and Greenbank attended just after 8pm on Thursday, September 28, after the occupant reported fumes from a oil-fired burner. On arrival, crews began investigating using two breathing apparatus sets and a gas monitor and were able to confirm the oil boiler vent was blocked.

The property was ventilated by the breathing apparatus team and an ambulance was requested for two women in the property after crews began administering oxygen therapy for the ingestion of carbon monoxide fumes.

The boiler was also isolated and occupants advised not to use it until a qualified engineer had attended.

A Kingsbridge Fire Station representative said: “Now winter is coming and the heating is going to be coming back on, remember to get your boilers serviced and chimneys swept, and also fit a working carbon monoxide detector. Stay Safe.”
