Police were called to an address in Kingsbridge last week after a caller expressed concerned that his neighbour hadn’t been seen for a week.

Rather than cause damage and force entry into the property, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to climb through an open upstairs window.

Sgt David Green, neighbourhood team leader for Kingsbridge Police said: “We received a phone call from a neighbour, raising concerns that a man who lived alone, and is believed to be in his 60s, hadn’t been seen for more than a week.

“With the help of the fire brigade, police climbed through a window without causing damage, but found that the house was empty.

“The officers left a note explaining what had happened, but haven’t heard from the man as yet.”

Sgt Green added: “This is a friendly request, that if you’re away, please do let a trusted neighbour know.”
