RAIL travellers faced serious delays on Monday morning after a reported fatality closed the main London to Penzance line.

Reports came in shortly after 9am that emergency services were dealing with an incident in Plymouth, later reported to be a fatality in the tunnel under Mutley.

National Rail Enquiries warned passengers of delays of up to 60 minutes between Newton Abbot and Plymouth. Replacement buses were running between the two stations.

The organisation said it expected the resumption of normal service around 11am on Monday, though it later warned passengers to expect delays until 1.30pm on Monday.
