A crash involving three vehicles brought the A38 to a standstill on Tuesday evening.
The collision happened just after 5.30pm close to Endsleigh Garden Centre near Ivybridge, on the westbound carriageway heading towards Plymouth.
With the Devon Expressway busy because of rush hour, and the outsde lane closed, traffic queued back passed the Ivybridge junction towards Exeter.
Police confirmed that the crash involved a Land Rover discovery, a Vauxhall Combo van and a Toyoto Aygo.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue also sent three engines to the scene, to the accident in the outside lane between Westover and Lee Mill.
The ambulance service also attended, but everyone was free and clear of the vehicles, with no injuries reported.
The vehicles were made safe, and the road was all clear and the outside lane re-opened roughly two hours later, at 7.45pm.
