Emergency services were called out on Christmas Day after a sighting of an unidentified floating object.
Dartmouth Coastguard was tasked to Bayard’s Cove to a sighting of an unidentified object. It was sighted by someone staying in one of the chalets close by.
Once spotted, the Coastguard asked for back up from Dart RNLI which did a thorough search of the sea.
Guiding the lifeboat to the last sighted position, the Coastguard sent up two paralume flares to aid the search in the diminishing light.
Nothing was spotted afterwards. However, both emergency service teams said it would continue the search on Boxing Day morning.
The Coastguard has thanked the owners of the chalet who let the police and coastguard take over during the search.
Dartmouth Coastguard said: “Lastly, as a volunteer rescue service we wish to thank our families and friends and to those of the RNLI for their support and understanding when we have to drop everything and attend a call out.
“It’s never an easy decision for us to go and especially on Christmas Day but always worth it, even with it being a false alarm with good intent on this occasion."
