A man has been arrested following a post office robbery.Police received a call at 3.43pm on Thursday reporting the robbery at Kingswear post office.The amount of money stolen has not yet been revealed.After the raid, the man fled on foot. An extensive search, involving armed police officers, the force helicopter and a police dog, followed.

The suspect made his way across the Dart and into Dartmouth. He was identified at the Seale Arms in Victoria Road. By this time, there were at least four police vehicles tracking the suspect. In a bid to escape, he ran along Victoria Road towards Anzac Street. Three or four police vehicles were behind him and one in front.

Officers arrested the suspect at the junction of Anzac Street and Victoria Road, pinning him down with an “appropriate level force” at about 5pm.

The suspect was them taken into custody.

A witness said:”He came into the pub, out of breath. I know him, he’s a trouble-maker. I called the police in.”

Another witness, who also wished not to be identified said, pointing at the junction: “That’s where he was caught. They bundled him into the police car and just left immediately.”
