THE A38 was shut for most of last night after a fatal crash in which a motorcyclist fell and was run over by a car.

At around 9.36pm, police were called to reports of a collision on the A38 near Avonwick and South Brent.

They believe a motorcyclist, riding a Harley Davidson in a group of three on the eastbound carriageway, fell close to the Shell Carew Services near the Woodpecker junction.

Police think a Honda Civic travelling in the same direction then ran over the motorcyclist.

Emergency services closed the carriageway between Ivybridge and South Brent, but the motorcyclist, a 49-year-old man from the Brixham area was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say they are appealing for witnesses and would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision.
