Tony Porter, of Deerhill, Ashford, Kingsbridge, writes: In 1986 my wife and I sold all we had to buy the deserted and largely forgotten Burgh Island. Having spent 16 years restoring its art deco hotel as well as the island grounds for all to enjoy, we were delighted to see it appear as number one in the recent New Year Walks feature in The Times. Sadly, though, as your readers will know, there is now a danger that this wonderful view for walkers and drivers alike is in danger of being ruined if the new owners are allowed to lay hundreds of solar panels on the tennis court alongside the now listed hotel. As you have reported, the Parish Council has voted against it unanimously. In January it will go before South Hams District Council and planners, and we dread the prospect of opening your newspaper one Friday soon to find that it has managed to slide through. Your readers could still help us prevent this scar for all time.
