A public consultation on the economic future of Ivybridge is now live.

Residents and local business owners are being asked for their views on Ivybridge now and how they want the town to look in the future. The views and opinions will be used to shape future plans for Ivybridge, in the short, medium and long term. The consultation is open for public responses until the 31st January 2024.

Short term plans can include low cost and quick to deliver projects such as, erecting new signage, cleaning buildings and extending current business support. In the medium and long term will included projects that will take more careful consideration and money to deliver like, creating more wheelchair accessible areas, energy saving business grants, new cycle routes and footpaths, e-bike grants and electric vehicle charging stations.

The consultation is being run by the South Hams District Council and in the coming years will bring similar consultations to Dartmouth, Totnes and Kingsbridge.

Climate change is on the new councils’ top priorities and that will be one of the key focuses on the consultation particularly how businesses can reduce their carbon emissions.

At the culmination of this project next summer South Hams District Council will create short, medium and long term actions for Ivybridge going forward.

Cllr John Birch, Executive Member for Economic Development, Commercial Strategy and Governance said: “In order for our towns to thrive, it is vital that we continue to attract people to live and work in our wonderful communities.

“This is very much a local led project and the aspirations and agreed actions should be reflective of the opinions of each community. Please do take part in sharing your views when developing a Community Economic Plan for your town.

“With climate change high on the agenda, this project will also provide opportunities and infrastructure to improve the environmental quality of towns.”
