Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision near Kingsbridge in which a 68-year-old woman died.

Officers were notified at 10.10pm on Thursday, July 6, that a Toyota Corolla had been located in a wooded area off the B3196 near to Loddiswell Bridge.

The car had left the road as it travelled down Loddiswell Hill, leaving the road at the bottom corner, rather than turning left onto New Bridge, travelling down a bank and ending up on its roof.

The driver, a 68-year-old woman from Loddiswell, who has been named locally as Val Lugger, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision which they believe could have happened at any time during the day.

Officers had been carrying out a search to locate the woman who was reported missing at 6.30pm having failed to return home earlier in the day.

The road was closed for seven hours for officers from the Alliance Roads Policing Team to carry out an examination of the scene and for the vehicle to be recovered.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information about the incident is asked to contact police via [email protected] or by phone on 101, quoting log number 1063 of 06/07/17.
