Woodlands swimmers hit the big time after qualifying for national champs

Young swimmers from a South Hams primary school have made big waves by winning through to national finals.

The swimming team from Woodlands Park Primary School in Ivybridge is heading to the English Schools Swimming Association National Primary Team Championships, to be held in Sheffield in June.

Relay team Thomas Jones, Sophia King, Madison Oman, Megan Harris and Jasmine D’Cunha won the Plymouth Schools Relay Championship at the city’s Life Centre in March. They backed up that success with a great performance at the Regional Swimming Competition at Millfield School in Somerset, where they won the individual medley race and came second in the freestyle.

The results were enough to qualify for the finals in Sheffield, where they will take on the best in the country. A school spokesman congratulated the team.
